Book: The Upside of Falling Down
Author: Rebekah Crane
For Clementine Haas, finding herself is more than a nice idea. Ever since she woke up in an Irish hospital with complete amnesia, self-discovery has become her mission.
They tell her she’s the lone survivor of a plane crash. They tell her she’s lucky to be alive. But she doesn’t feel lucky. She feels…lost.
With the relentless Irish press bearing down on her, and a father she may not even recognize on his way from America to take her home, Clementine assumes a new identity and enlists a blue-eyed Irish stranger, Kieran O’Connell, to help her escape her forgotten life…and start a new one.
One Line Review: Dare to read this book? I sure will.
The Upside Of Falling Down was filled with wonderful quotes!! The words were just beautifully arranged one after the other. It felt like I was reading a spell book not a novel. I’m not sure if I can explain it right, but I was hooked from the very first page to the last.
This was a story of survival, self discovery and courage. I’m sure that most of us would’ve reacted differently to a problem this big. However, Clementine is positive, strong willed and hopeful most of the time, And that takes great strength in my opinion.
It literally took me 3 hours to finish it. My only regret is not taking my time to enjoy it properly.
What bothered me though was how everyone reacted in this book.
- For starters, if there was a crash in my town you know that every single person will be keeping up with that. So I find it hard to believe that it took this long for Clive and some of the other characters to spot her.
- How is her dad so calm?! He first lost his daughter, then he finds out she has amnesia, then she runs away and he loses her again. For a month or so! Then he finds her sharing a hotel room with a guy…. how has he managed to keep his cool?
- Her nurse was too kind. There’s no way some stranger would be this thoughtful and caring.
- Also, a plane crash survivor with amnesia goes missing yet no one bothers to call the police or enlist the help of the locals to locate her by foot? I don’t get it.
Also…how did she survive the crash? I don’t think we were ever told? How does she only have a head injury? No burn marks or scars…. That just doesn’t seem realistic to me. But then again, this was just a story to entertain us. And I was extremely entertained. Therefore, I whole heartedly recommend reading this book.
