The first time we met was at a party.
Your ex arrived to show off the person he’d left you for last month, and you asked me to pretend to be your date.
I was more than happy to help. You were attractive, smart and witty–and that kiss we shared? It left me wanting you for days.
The second time we met was in my office on campus where we were both surprised to discover you were the new master’s degree student in poetry that I would be working with. You promised to be professional. I did no such thing.
The late nights and intense study sessions spent alongside you majorly throw me off my game. I want you, and I fight with myself daily over this fact.
I know I’m crass, that my sexual innuendos and dirty mouth annoy you, but I live for those two bright spots of color in your cheeks. If that’s the only reaction I can get out of you, I’ll gladly take it.
You hate Mondays so every Monday I slip an anonymous poem into your bag and your smile gets me through the week.
I think I’m falling for you, and I know it’s wrong. I know that I’m only supposed to be the adviser to your program and nothing more, but here’s the thing. I think you’re falling for me too.
“We were supposed to be studying literature together. Instead I wanted to take her off the shelf, crack her open, and read the shit out of her.”
Spoiler Free Review:
I’m disappointed. Not gonna lie, I’m really disappointed. I went into this with such high hopes! Obviously, after the awesomeness of The Room Mates Series this was only going to get better. Alas, that was not the case.
“You have to decide if it’s just sex you want or if it’s something more. You can’t be in between on that point. You can’t do that to a woman.”
Where to begin…First of, this was a cringe fest. The number of times I had to put it down and breathe was sadly at an all time high. Gavin’s personality is incredibly annoying and frustrating. Which is obviously the point, him being an ass and all, but it was too much for me. Not to mention, that ‘ending’. If I could even call it that!! What was that!? The book just stopped mid-plot?! WHAT?
Look, I did give it three stars, alright. So there had to be some good.
A. Triple POV which is awesome. If having a POV can be a trope. Then it is definitely mine!
B. The ball gowns and dresses. I’m a sucker for that.
C. She’s a librarian. One of my dream jobs.
D. Cooper. Because his name is as cute as a puppies.
E. Character Development.
Would I be moving on to the next book in this series? We shall see.
Until Next Time!
