Two novellas set in the world of The Selection series, The Prince and The Guard that both offer captivating views into the hearts and minds of the two men fighting to win America Singer’s love. The Prince opens the week before the Selection begins and follows Maxon through the first day of the competition.
Raised as a Six, Aspen Leger never dreamed that he would find himself living in the palace as a member of the royal guard. In The Guard, readers get an inside look at Aspen’s life within the palace walls—and the truth about a guard’s world that America will never know.
So this post is long overdue. I read this book ages ago but was reluctant to write a review about it since theres nothing much to say. However, my need to be perfectly thorough and organized got the best of me, so here we go.
This book contains two short stories about Prince Maxon and Aspen. So I will review each one individually.
Talks about Maxon, of course. We get a glimpse of his life before the Selection happened. I think this shows an interesting and adorable side to him. We find out more about his imperfections and his relationship with his sweet mother, horrible father and his only friend, Daphne. It was also exciting to see Maxon’s first impressions of the girls and how he handled the situation on their first meeting. Overall, he gets a 4 stars rating!
Talks about Aspen, who is America’s first lover. This novella talks about his life as one of the Royal Guards. I initially didn’t like Aspen, after reading this, I still don’t. It’s just boring and uninteresting to me. This gets 1 star.
This book contained the full list of the Selection girls as well as The One sneak peak. Since I read this book after reading The One, it really didn’t mean much to me. The list was a nice touch though.
