A Court Of Thorns And Roses | Sarah J. Maas

There are those who seek me a lifetime but never we meet,
And those I kiss but who trample me beneath ungrateful feet.

At times I seem to favor the clever and the fair,
But I bless all those who are brave enough to dare.

By large, my ministrations are soft-handed and sweet,
But scorned, I become a difficult beast to defeat.

For though each of my strikes lands a powerful blow,
When I kill, I do it slow… ”

Breakdown:

  • Book: A Court Of Thorns And Roses
  • Series: ACOTAR – Book One
  • Author: Sarah J. Maas

Synopsis:

“Feyre’s survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price …

Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre’s presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.”

I LOVE IT.

This book is everything I didn’t expect it to be. Very little things truly and completely captivate me, and this was one of them. From beginning, to middle, to end. I loved it. There aren’t enough words to describe how I feel about ACOTAR. Truly. But… I’ll try.

SPOILERS

The first few chapters went a little slow for me, but I forced myself to push through. And I’m so glad I did, because everything suddenly happened so fast. Feyre or as how you are meant to pronounce it – Feyruh-  is the youngest of three sisters and is forced to hunt in the woods to provide for her family while her sisters, Nesta and Elain dined and wined for free. One day something happens and the High Lord of the Spring Court, Tamlin shows up and takes her. Tamlin being the handsome eye candy that he is, ends up falling in love with her.  Showering this poor huntress with all the jewels and riches of the world.

On the other side, we have the evil b**** Amarantha. She took over the fae realm and ruled it like the dark and murderous monster that she is. All while brooding over sweet Tamlin. Obviously, all the ingredients for a recipe for disaster.

I completely dumbed it down to make it more simple, but TRUST ME. There is soo much more. This book isn’t just a love story. It’s a tale of a smart and strong woman who fought against all odds to keep her family and her lover safe. She sacrificed herself for a family that didn’t do anything for her. She gave herself up for a man who hid things from her. AND she destroyed herself for a species that didn’t give a crap about her. She gave up her world for everyone but herself. Powerful and selfless Feyre is everything I would love to be.

In comes the brooding and sexy Rhysand, pronounced Reese-and, he is the High Lord of The Night Court. Faerie bad boy through and through. AND my personal favorite. This is the very first time in my ‘reading’ history that I wish with the bottom of my heart that the main protagonist ends up with a secondary male character. Because let me tell you, Rhysand is no ones second. Labelled as Amarantha’s Who*e he is our enemy. But things happen that will make you think twice about that. AND that is all I will say about this sweetheart.

I have soo many questions that have been left unanswered….

MAJOR SPOILERS

A. What was Amarantha’s question, you know what I’m talking about! Will I ever know what it is?

B. Why on earth would Tamlin do this! There was a moment where Feyre could’ve been saved towards the end of the book.

That one moment Tamlin had with her, he chose to sleep with her?? Why?? I don’t get it! If you finally have a moment where you can save your beloveds life without anyone noticing then you WOULD SAVE YOUR BELOVED’S LIFE. Instead of trying to do that or even at the very least talking to her, he chose to sleep with her!! Tamlin! I’m soo disappointed in you! Truly!

C. This part……. I would kill to know what this part meant. Oddly enough my favorite part in the whole book.

“Well, good-bye for now,” he said, rolling his neck as if we hadn’t been talking about anything important at all. He bowed at the waist, those wings vanishing entirely, and had begun to fade into the nearest shadow when he went rigid.
His eyes locked on mine wide and wild, and his nostrils flared. Shock—pure shock flashed across his features at whatever he saw on my face, and he stumbled back a step. Actually stumbled.
“What is—” I began.
He disappeared—simply disappeared, not a shadow in sight—into the crisp air.”

FINALLLY…

This book is everything. I recommend it to anyone who wants a book about love, family and sacrifice. Also, if you’re interested in learning how to kill a large disgusting worm then this book is definitely for you. I promised myself that I won’t purchase any book until my loooong unending TBR is done…BUT…I think this series will be an exception. Look forward to my next review!

Enjoy the Sequels:

Final Rating:

“Rhysand stared at me for long enough that I faced him.
“Be glad of your human heart, Feyre. Pity those who don’t feel anything at all.”
